Heavenly Mountain Resort in the Lake Tahoe area announced Monday that the mid-mountain Tamarack Lodge would open for the first time on Saturday. The December completion of the project comes ahead of schedule in light of earlier projections for a February 2011 opening. Located at the top of the gondola, the 14,980-square-foot restaurant will have almost 500 indoor seats and 250 outdoor patio seats. The food-court setting will offer a variety of menu items including the smokehouse barbecue that was available last season at an outdoor grill in the area. The facility will also house Bar 9150′.

The Tamarack Lodge sits between the top terminal of the gondola and Adventure Peak, the tubing hill at Heavenly. The glass facade faces the upper part of the mountain accessed by the Tamarack Express chairlift. Stretching across California and Nevada, Heavenly has 4,800 skiable acres. As of the resort’s Monday snow report, 4,000 of the 4,800 acres were open with snow forecast throughout the coming week.
