SMS rider Spencer Shaw wins Revolution Tour Halfpipe

Copper Mountain, Colo.‹Stratton Mountain School snowboarder Spencer Shaw ¹11 won the Halfpipe event at the Copper Mountain Revolution Tour on Dec. 14.

Shaw fell during his first run but came back with a powerful second run to seal the win. His winning run consisted of a frontside 1080 tail grab, a cab 7 to a font 9, which went into a backside air followed by a frontside 12.  Shaw was the youngest rider on the podium. Shaw also clinched the Best Trick award for his frontside 1260, adding a $250 bonus to his prizes. With the combination of his Grand Prix finish anhis win at the Revolution Tour, Spencer is on the right track to clinch a
spot in the Junior World Championships.

In the girls¹ competition, two SMS riders finished in the top 10. Makayla
(photo: sms) Tierney ¹13 earned ninth place in the event and Serena Shaw ¹13 took home 10th.  The field consisted of strong international competition and finished close to dark.

For the Slopestyle competition on Dec. 15, the snow kept falling, which made
for a sticky and complicated slope session. Tierney took a ninth place spot
again, starting off her season with two top-10 finishes.

Select members of the group will compete next in Breckenridge, Colo., for
the Winter Dew Tour on Dec. 16 and 17.

Stratton Mountain School is a premier ski and snowboard academy located at
the base of Stratton Mountain. The independent school serves students in
