The 2011 Birkie and Kortelopet race cap of 8400 skiers will be reached tomorrow and race registration for these events will close on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. (CST).

Online race registration and fax registrations will be accepted until that time. Mailed race registrations must be postmarked Saturday, December 18th.

Last Spring the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Board of Directors voted to set a registration cap on the Birkie and Kortelopet of 8400 skiers. The race cap was established to assure the highest quality event for all skiers.

“Skiers have this one last opportunity to register for these events,” said Ned Zuelsdorff, Executive Director. “Birkie/Korte online registration is available at www.birkie.com or skiers can fax a registration to 715-634-5663.”

There are currently 149 skiers registered for the 12K Prince Haakon leaving 251 positions in this event. The Prince Haakon event has a registration cap of 400 skiers and an overall registration deadline of January 31, 2011. Race registration for the Prince Haakon will remain open until the cap is reached or the deadline.

As of Friday, December 17th, Birkie/Korte Skate Waves 2, 3, 4 and 9 as well as Birkie/Korte Classic Wave 6 and 7 are all closed to new registrations. Skate Wave 1 only has 20 positions remaining. Skiers qualified for these waves will be assigned to the next available wave
