Oh my the storms are lining up. Squaw Valley was shut down completely today with 100+mph winds?!?! Mammoth is at just rediculous snow totals, 9 feet!, since friday in the a.m. The storms are just getting warmed up. You’ve heard of pineapple express, right. Well now if you live in the western US you are living it. It probably rained 6 inches in l.a. this weekend too….. Travel plans are getting interesting….
The Pineapple Express is coming into full form. A rather stationary storm will spin off the coast of Oregon and Washington from now through about Wednesday. The counter-clockwise rotation around this storm will pull moisture straight from Hawaii and dump it into Colorado in the form of snow.
The heaviest snow for all areas should fall from late Sunday night through Monday night.
The Quick Forecast shows some impressive totals, and actual snow amounts could come in higher than what I show. One limiting factor for the mountains along I-70 will be a wind direction that is generally from the west-south-west. While this direction pummels the Aspen/Crested Butte/Monarch areas with snow, it can lead to lower totals further north. However, there is SO much moisture coming into the state that it might cancel out the bad wind direction. Or…the wind could come more from the west instead of the WSW. So many nuances, so little time. Just remember, Monday is the big day almost everywhere, with good powder likely around on Tuesday as well. Oh, and this weekend will be fun too. Geez – decisions, decisions!
