Nordic skiers and snowshoers, get your gear ready because the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring their 25th annual free ski/snowshoe day on January 8th. The Idaho City Park N’ Ski areas are located 17 to 25 miles north of Idaho City on Highway 21. You’ll find 4 parking areas with large plowed parking lots. Collectively, the area offers 55 miles of marked ski trails of which 26 miles are groomed for skiing. All are available for snowshoeing, too. The usual Park N’ Ski fee is waived that day to encourage you to test out those new Nordic skis and snowshoes. Some parks will also be hosting special events, with free goodies ranging from nordic skiing lessons to delicious cookies. If you have never ventured from the comfortable confines of alpine skiing, January 8th would be a great day to try out nordic. I think we can all agree that whether it’s alpine, nordic, or just snowshoeing, any day in the snow is a great day indeed.
