A man skiing at Colorado’s Beaver Creek ski resort has been charged with child abuse after punching a 14-year-old girl in the face, Vail Daily reports.
Scott Filler, 41, was with his 4-year-old son when the teen girl, swerving to avoid another skier, accidentally bumped into the boy. Filler told Eagle County deputies he thought the girl was skiing carelessly and had seriously injured his son, according to the Vail newspaper.
After the collision, Filler jumped on top of the girl and struck her in the face with his fist, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike McWilliam told the paper. A ski instructor pulled Filler off the teen and, after realizing his son was not hurt, the Decatur resident apologized for his behavior.
The 14-year-old was treated for minor injuries at a local medical clinic. Filler will have to return to Vail to answer the misdemeanor child abuse charge, McWilliam said. District Attorney Mark Hurlbert told the Vail Daily a conviction could result in up to two years in county jail.
