MT. CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. – According to the National Weather Service, Crested Butte is experiencing a unique storm system that could net 8 feet of fresh Colorado powder by Thursday, when the current pattern is expected to break. Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) has received 53 inches (over 4 feet) of snow in the past 7 days, with an additional 16 inches reported from the past 24 hours. The current base at the resort is 65 inches – that’s over 5 feet in mid-December. This could be the mountain version of “The Perfect Storm” if predictions hold true. Meanwhile, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has kept roads and highways clear and all winter routes to Crested Butte remain open as of 12:00 p.m. today. The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport also remains open and there were minimal delays and no flight cancellations yesterday and just one diverted flight (to Montrose) thus far today.
