Yup you read that right…Mammoth Mountain, Whistler and Crested Butte aren’t the only ones getting pounded with snow right now. The worlds tallest mountain, Mauna Kea as well as Mauna Loa both had significant snowfalls this week. Nearly a foot of freshies pummelled the giant mountain tops and gave the mountains over 1000 feet of vertical. Glen Plake and Bode…go get your bus! We need to promote skiing on the big Island.
The Ski Channel spoke to world champion surfer, wind surfer and paddle boarder Dave Kalama who said he was definately going to hit Mauna Kea. Roads are now open but were closed for a couple of days.
Although the snow started getting heavy around the 12,000 foot level, flurries were reported by many people at sea level. Not the best news for President Obama’s family vacation happening right now in the surf mecca.
So if lift lines got you down, maybe it is time you hit Hawaii!
