Austria’s Michael Walchhofer ran tough and bumpy course in Bormio, Italy, in under 2 minutes Wednesday to win the men’s World Cup downhill. Silvan Zurbriggen finished second and is the overall leader in downhill points for the season.
Bode Miller placed eighth and was one of three Americans in the top 20. Steven Nyman finished 11th and Travis Ganong ended up in 20th place. A solid showing for our American team who seemed to ski very well on such a tough course.
Travis Ganong said about the course, “It’s a real deal downhill, bumpy, fast, icy and dark,” he said. “It is just tough skiing from top to bottom.”
