A 16 year old exchange student remains in critical condition today after being rescued from a tree well at Whitefish resort Wednesday at 11am. It is unknown whether the teenager was skiing alone or with friends when he fell in to the tree well. Two nearby skiers spotted the teen’s skis protruding from the snow and dug him out. A licensed nurse who was also skiing in the area performed CPR until Ski Patrol could take over.
The student was unresponsive while being transported to the mountain’s clinic, but after arrival a pulse was identified. The teen was then transferred to Kalispell Regional Medical Center where he is confirmed to be in critical condition. He was found in an off-trail area, but within the ski area boundary. As of yet the boy’s name and home country is unknown.
