The Flagstaff Nordic Center operates 40 kilometers of cross-country ski trails and a number of snowshoe trails as well. The next full moon ski will be Tuesday, Jan. 18. The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
“It’s definitely a long day,” said the center’s Tiffany James. “We don’t light up the trails. We let the moon do that.”
There is a bonfire at the lodge, and usually, another along one of the trails.
When December’s full moon came around, the region was getting rain, not snow. But storms over the holidays have improved the snow pack considerably.
The center does not have a food or beverage license, but people are welcome to bring their own.
The Nordic Center will maintain weekday pricing for the event, with a daily trail pass going for $12 a day. From 1-8 p.m., a trail pass will be $10. Skis, pole and boot rental will be $10.
