Aspen/Snowmass will host on-mountain demos, the annual Kids Poster Contest at Buttermilk and will be handing out avalanche dog trading cards to spread safe skiing and riding messages during NSAA’s Safety Week, January 15 – 23, 2011.
The avalanche dog trading cards will return this year during Safety Week. Patrollers will be handing out these cards throughout the week. There will also be an online component to this year’s Safety Week, visit here to interact with the Patrol dogs: www.aspensnowmass.com/safetygame.
Safety Week Activities by Mountain:
Snowmass will host a variety of events throughout the week including free binding checks and helmet demos; a safety tent located at the top of Elk Camp Gondola; photos with the Patrol Dogs; Beacon Park on Fanny Hill and a Park and Pipe Meet-and-Greet at Little Makaha.
Guests are invited to be rescued by an Aspen Mountain Patrol Dog every day at 10 a.m. at the Patrol Headquarters. Other Aspen Mountain activities include a daily safety poster contest and Recco demo.
Patrol dog trading cards will be available at Patrol Headquarters throughout Safety Week and guests can receive Hershey’s Kisses at all lifts throughout the week by answering safety questions correctly. Beacon demonstrations or Patrol dog rescue drills will occur Sunday – Friday at 11 a.m. outside of the Merry-Go-Round.
The highlight of Safety Week at Buttermilk is a Safety Poster contest on Wednesday, January 19 at noon in Bumps, where kids are encouraged to design a poster demonstrating safe skiing and riding. Other activities include helmet checks at the base of the mountain and Safety S’mores at the base area from 2 – 4 p.m. daily.
