Breckenridge residents Sunday night began celebrating snow with Ullr Fest, the town’s annual carnival honoring Ullr (pronounced Oool-er), the Norse god of snow. With over 200” of snow in the first two months of the Breckenridge ski season, locals and visitors have good reason to praise the snow god. Revelers crowned the Ullr King and Queen at Monday night’s Nordic Party & Bonfire.

The week of snow-worship (Jan. 9-15) culminated on Sunday with the Ullr Parade: quite possibly the world’s craziest parade, the procession honors all things snow by showcasing ski jumps, dogsled teams and more. Other events include:

The Ullympics: Co-ed teams of four compete in wild events such as the frying pan toss and group ski racing. Awards and a party follow.

Tuaca Body Art Ball: Post-Ullympics, head to the Riverwalk Center for the newest event of Ullr 2011: body painting and performance art.

Ullr Dating Game: Calling all bachelors and bachelorettes! Join local radio station KSMT and all the great singles in town for Breckenridge’s version of the Dating Game. Ullr himself will be on hand looking for love. Great times, great prizes and a great chance to meet your soul mate!

Ullr Comedy Night: Laugh the night away with comedians Stephanie McHugh and Rocky LaPorte. Tickets are $35 and available at the Carriage House and Breckenridge Welcome Center.

Chilly Chili Cook-Off: Warm up after a week of snow worship with the Mountain Rotary Club’s Chilly Chili Cook-Off. Enter your best recipe or sample the wares.
