DENVER – Many of freeskiing’s top companies will gather in Denver, Tuesday, Jan. 25, for what promises to be a mid-winter battle royale. The Metro Denver Sports Commission and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) announced that 15 of freeskiing’s premier brands will choose three skiers to compete head-to-head against the competition in the Nature Valley Big Air “Battle of the Brands” event as part of the Denver Big Air presented by Sprint.
The team athletes will session a 102-foot high ramp in Denver’s Civic Center Park, performing some of the most technical and complicated tricks on the competition circuit, igniting the crowd as they try and capture the “Best Brand” crown.
“‘The Battle of the Brands’ is a phenomenal opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents in an urban area with strong connections to the ski community,” explained Armada Team Manager Josh Bishop.
The “Battle of the Brands” format consists of five rounds of head-to-head competition on its path to an overall champion. After seeding, tournament-style elimination will set the stage with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. In addition, the judges will award a “best trick” prize.
“It’s awesome to see skiing in an arena atmosphere,” said Nordica Team Manager Sam Beck.
Fans will have incredible access to the event, starting with practice at 5 p.m. MST and culminating with a set by Grammy-nominated Switchfoot and the “Battle of the Brand” finals.
Participating brands are finalizing their athlete rosters in anticipation of the Jan. 25 big air kickoff event.
