Squaw Valley USA — Squaw Valley USA welcomes Julie Maurer as the newest addition to the senior management team. With more than 25 years experience in the mountain resort industry, Maurer will serve as the resort’s new Vice President of Marketing and Sales. She joins the team from Vail Resorts, where she served as the Vice President of Regional Marketing. Maurer’s appointment as Vice President of Marketing and Sales will be effective on January 31, 2011.
“We are delighted to bring Ms. Maurer on board,” stated Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are fortunate to have such a well-versed and highly regarded professional join our executive team as we usher in a new era here at Squaw Valley USA. We believe that Ms. Maurer’s wealth of experience will help optimize Squaw Valley USA’s brand position and recognition.”
Maurer will continue to unify Squaw Valley’s marketing and sales teams, ensuring cohesive brand awareness for the resort. Her responsibilities will include but are not limited to overseeing all aspects of the resort’s marketing and sales for Squaw Valley Ski Corporation, The Village at Squaw Valley, and Squaw Valley Central Reservations. Maurer joins Squaw Valley USA upon the recent announcement of Scott Clarkson’s resignation from the marketing and sales vice president role.
“Ms. Maurer is renowned as one of the industry’s leading marketing minds,” Wirth continued. “Her knowledge of regional, domestic and international markets coupled with her energy, branding expertise and passion for the industry will help position Squaw Valley as one of North America’s leading resort destinations. As we welcome Ms. Maurer to the company, we are thankful for Scott’s many significant contributes to the resort during his tenure.”
Maurer’s experience dates back to 1982 when she joined Northstar-at-Tahoe’s marketing team. Since then, she has worked with industry names from the likes of Fibreboard Resort Group including Sierra-at-Tahoe and Big Bear Mountain in California. Under Maurer’s leadership, her staff and resorts have received multiple awards including: the North American Snowsports Journalists Association’s Excellence in Media award, Far West Ski Association’s Ski Resort of the Year award, and National Ski Areas Association Marketing Award. Additionally, she has landed brand recognition in national publications for Family Resort of the Year, Top 50 Ski Resorts, Top Golf Resorts, and Top Tennis Resorts.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join Squaw Valley USA,” explains Maurer. “The team, the venue and the prominent local following is truly a testament to the entire resort experience. I’m looking forward to building upon this solid foundation.”
Maurer also serves as a member of the National Ski Areas Association marketing council and is a board member of Ski Lake Tahoe, a cooperative marketing organization promoting Lake Tahoe’s seven largest resorts.
