Busy spring calendar for Loon Mountain

With nearly 13 feet of snow this season, Loon Mountain welcomes March with 100% of terrain open and a calendar full of entertainment and events for everyone.

On Friday, March 4, Boston’s WXRV- The River will host a Learn to Ski & Ride promotion along with the first spring après party at Loon.  Following fun and great prizes, enjoy an après party in Babe’s Lounge from 3 to 5 p.m.

Join WXRV – The River, and friends and supporters of The Faulkner Breast Center and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer by skiing in a dual NASTAR course in The Briefcase Race with Mike Lynch on March 5.  To sign up, visit www.briefcaserace.org. That evening, a Park Ranger Auction, sponsored by Oakley, will also benefit Women’s Health at Faulkner Hospital. The auction will take place in the Bunyan Room at 8 p.m. and the winning bid on a Loon Mountain Park Ranger will win a gift certificate for dinner for two and two lift tickets for the 2010-2011 winter season.

Following on the heels of the successful Bud Light Saturday Nights featuring bands such as The Alchemystics and Bad Rabbits, the Paul Bunyan Room Saturday Night Entertainment continues with ‘6 Foot Sunday’ appearing in the Bunyan Room on March 5. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 21 and over.  A full schedule of Saturday night entertainment is available at loonmtn.com.

March 12, the Kostik Kup, a fundraiser race for New England Disabled Sports, starts off the day.  For more information, visit www.nedisabledsports.org.  Join Kiss 108 in the Bunyan Room from 3-5 p.m. and win a chance to take home $1,000 in a snowball toss. Continuing the Bunyan Room Saturday Night Entertainment, The Ron Noyes Band will play beginning at 8:30 p.m. 

March 16, Last Call with Eastern Boarder Takes over the Loon Mountain Park.  Entry fee is $50 which includes a lift ticket, contest entry, lunch and a chance to win tons of cash.  Registration will be from 8:30-10 a.m. in Java Junction.  Awards will follow in the Shaping Shack at 3:30pm with an after party in the Bunyan Room. 

Benefiting the Eileen Keegan Rice Community Fund, Eileen’s “Luck of the Irish” Ski Race takes place on March 17.  To sponsor, register, or reserve a team contact Peggy at peggy@woodstockinnnh.com.  The 27th Governor Adams Cup Invitational is back at Loon on March 19.  This Non-Sanctioned Citizen’s Race for good skiers of all ages benefits the Governor’s Cup Ski Scholarship to help local kids who want to further their racing careers .  To register online visit www.active.com and search Governor’s Cup 2011.  The WFNX crew hosts an après party in the Bunyan Room from 3-5 p.m. following the Governor’s Cup. 

On March 20, the Cardboard Box Race will take place on lower Coolidge Street.  Cash prizes will be given out for first, second, and third place in categories of Best Themed Favorite Trail, Best Crash, and Fastest Time.  The Cardboard Box Race is a free event for the first 75 entries.  Registration runs from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Governor’s Lodge. Event starts at noon following the Cardboard Box Parade at 11:30 a.m. 

Sponsored by Vitamin Water, the first annual 2 Plank to the Bank on March 20 is a skier-only event in which skiers will compete with a partner in three different events: The setups will include a wall ride, moguls, and other unique setups.  The winning team will take home $1,000 in cash.  Registration will be held in the Bunyan Room from 8:30-10 a.m. 

Loon Mountain Park will be hosting the Shop Showdown on March 26-27. Shop teams will compete in three different events and a costume contest.  Shop team of two riders can enter for $60 which includes tickets, BBQ and the entry fee.  Following the Shop Showdown, join in Musical Chairs, Sports Trivia and more games with an après ski party hosted by WBZ in the Bunyan Room.

On March 26, The Alchemystics return to Loon for the last entertainment series of the season in the Bunyan Room. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 21 and over.

On April 2, Loon Mountain’s Annual Slush Pool Party sponsored by Coors Light will be outside the Octagon Base Lodge.  Registration takes place in the Bunyan Room from 9-10:30am, event starts at noon.  Free to the first 75 participants over 10 years old with a signed waiver. 

Now a Loon Mountain tradition, the 3rd annual 80’s Day is scheduled for April 9.   Music by Fast Times and 80’s festivities will be offered throughout the day.  Be sure to enter the mogul competition with your straight skis!  OneOhEight Apparel will be here handing out 80’s t-shirts and schwag.  On April 10, Signature Session, an end of the season jib jam on the Shaping Shack Hubba features,will be held in Loon Mountain Park.
