Greg Bretz finished up the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix series at Mammoth Mountain with a second place podium finish in front of an enthusiastic hometown crowd this past weekend. Last year, strong showings at Grand Prix events landed Bretz on the 2010 U.S. Snowboard Olympic Halfpipe team. This is the 20-year-old’s second halfpipe podium placing in the last month.
Bretz’s podium worthy run was marked by massive amplitude and technical tricks which scored big marks from the judges. Bretz put down a frontside 1080, cab 720, back-to-back 900s and a final frontside double 1080 at the bottom of the pipe to earn him his second place finish
“I am stoked to earn a podium spot while competing at home, the crowd was great” says Bretz. “Now it is time to get on that top spot, I am hungry for a win.”
Bretz landed on the podium in two of three Winter Dew Tour events this season. In between halfpipe contests, Bretz has been at home filming for the Mammoth Mountain movie that comes out next fall. Next Bretz will travel to Tignes, France to compete in the European X Games, March 16 through March 18, 2011.
