Julia Mancuso, silver medalist in the super-G at the World Championships, can add a World Cup downhill victory to her resume. The win today in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, is the 5th of her career and the first World Cup win since a downhill in Tarvisio, Italy in 2007. She skied an agressive, smooth run that put her .81 of the nearest competitor.
“It’s the first time in four years, it’s great to be back winning,” said Mancuso. “I watched Lara [Gut] ski so I knew I had to ski really fast because she nailed it. That’s all it was, all or nothing this time, last downhill of the season so it feels good.”
She also took over third place in the downhilll standings and imporved to 5th overall. Previous World Cup leader, Maria Riesch, lost her lead to Lindsey Vonn by finishing a disappointing 17th. Lindsey grabbed 50 points with a 4th place finihs to take the lead over Riesch by 27 points with 3 races remaining.
