What seemed an unsurmountable task just a short time ago is now a reality. Lindsey Vonn has overtaken Maria Riesch for the overall World Cup lead. Earning 50 points for a 4th place finish in the downhill in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, she now leads by 27 points with 3 races remaining. “It’s tough when you have led the whole season and suddenly you get knocked off the top,” Riesch said.
“It was not easy to race today because temperatures were high, the snow was soft and it was easy to make mistakes,” said Vonn who had already captured the season’s downhill title and is looking to win her 4th consecutive overall title.
“I made a mistake but it was important to cross the line today because it would have been so easy to go out.”
