Newry, Maine – X Games gold medal winner and world record holder Simon Dumont will host his third annual Dumont Cup at his hometown mountain, Sunday River, in Newry, Maine, on March 25 & 26, 2011. Dumont, along with seven professional freeski athletes will mentor, compete, and judge skiers on a slopestyle course located in the resort’s Rocking Chair Terrain Park, designed by Dumont himself.
Professional skiers signed up to compete in year’s event include Simon Dumont, Jossi Wells, Gus Kenworthy, Ian Cosco, Mike Riddle, Justin Dorey, Pete Olenick, Tom Wallisch, and last year’s Dumont Cup winner, Alex Schlopy. Schlopy was the first amateur to ever win the Dumont Cup and has since gone on to cinch a gold medal at the 2011 X Games Big Air event.
$20,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs for first, second, and third place finishers. Amateur skiers will also have the opportunity to ski with the pros and score some great prizes from Dumont Cup sponsors.
Qualifiers held in two sessions on Friday, March 25, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., will determine the top 40 amateurs sent to semi-finals on Saturday, March 26.
During the semi-finals and finals, professional and amateur skiers compete side-by-side. Judges determine the top three overall winners as well as a stand-out amateur from the two-day competition.
The Dumont Cup is open to 200 competitors-twice the size of last year’s field. Registration is $100 and includes a lift ticket. Ski and stay packages the weekend of March 26-27 start at $119 per person, per night, and include a daily lift ticket and adult ski school clinic.
