COLORADO — Two men were rescued after they were caught in an avalanche near the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area early this afternoon.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office stated that Nate Purcell was skiing and Danny Ferrari was snowboarding in an area called Devil’s Tool when the snow slide occurred.

The avalanche measured 1,000 feet long and 10 to 20 feet deep.

Purcell was hurt when he was caught in the snow slide and was taken to a hospital in Frisco. After he was caught in the snow, authorities say Purcell was able to call from his cell phone to let rescue crews know where they were located. The men were found about 30 minutes after the avalanche happened.
