Remember the old stereotype of the Austrian ski instructor yelling out “bend ze knees.” If you ever thought Arnold Schwarzenegger would be perfect for that role, you could actually share the slopes with Arnold during an upcoming fundraiser at California’s Mammoth Mountain.
The actor and former California governor plans to participate in the “Ski with the All-Stars Weekend” to benefit After-School All-Stars (ASAS) on April 29 through May 1. Schwarzenegger founded the charity in 1992 to provide free after-school activities for at-risk youth. Skiers can meet and even ski with Schwarzenegger through various sponsorship packages.
The highest level of sponsorship at $10,000 for two people includes skiing with Schwarzenegger and Mammoth CEO Rusty Gregory, plus lodging, lift tickets and ski rentals for the weekend. Lower levels of sponsorship include accommodations, lift tickets, ski rentals and a chance to meet Schwarzenegger at off-hill events. Details on the available packages may be found at the website for the San Diego chapter of ASAS.
Making the trip from ASAS chapters in San Diego, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Las Vegas and the Bay Area, many of the 60 participating students will have an opportunity to travel for the first time in their lives. “It’s giving them a vacation they may have never had, and Rusty and Arnold are inspiring role models to demonstrate how to work hard and pursue their dreams,” said Tyree Dillingham, San Diego ASAS executive director.
