Osprey packs hire new product line manager

Osprey Packs, Inc., a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs, announced today that Erik Hamerschlag has been named their new product line manager, effective immediately. He is rejoining Osprey, where he held several leadership positions from 1994 through 2001, after nine years with Mountain Hardwear, Inc.

“We are thrilled to welcome Erik back to Osprey and to benefit from his extensive outdoor product line creation experience and keen market analysis and strategic planning skills,” said Tom Barney, CEO of Osprey Packs.

During his first tenure with Osprey, Hamerschlag was instrumental in establishing the brand as an innovative technical pack company. He joined Osprey in 1994 as business manager and over the next seven years helped guide it through a tremendous growth period in which sales more than doubled and the employee count grew by over fifty percent. He became marketing manager in 1996, and served as CEO from 1999 through 2001.

After leaving Osprey, Hamerschlag spent nine years with Mountain Hardwear as product manager, guiding product strategy and managing design and development processes for a diverse range of products, including backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, gloves and gaiters.

 

As Osprey product line manager, Hamerschlag is responsible for collaborating with the company’s highly creative design team to identify market opportunities and create innovative, successful products. He will be based out of Osprey’s design studio in Mill Valley, California, with several trips per year to the Osprey headquarters in Cortez, Co and the company’s product development office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Other Osprey Team Changes

Osprey also announced two more changes to their leadership team. Erik Wegner will shift from his current role as operations and human resource director to human resources director in order to focus his skills and experience on Osprey’s ever-growing human resources needs. In addition, Wenger will direct Osprey’s newly restructured Quality Assurance & Returns Department. Wegner has 15 years of experience in the outdoor industry and has served in several leadership position roles at Osprey, including director of operations and quality assurance.

David Dunn has been promoted from shipping manager to director of operations at the company’s headquarters and main distribution center in Cortez. He has 12 years’ experience in manufacturing and logistics management, including five years as Osprey’s shipping manager.

Dunn’s promotion comes during the restructuring of Osprey’s operations department, as they integrate current shipping and warehouse departments into a single entity, streamlining the overall distribution process to better serve the needs of the global customer.
