I’ve had discussions with friends regarding this before. If you were an Olympic Athlete/Celebrity, how would you feel about seeing yourself on billboards on Sunset Boulevard or Times Square? Uncomfortable? Elated? Well we now know how four-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medal alpine skier Aksel Lund Svindal feels about it. He would prefer to stay in the shadows.
Svindal snapped this picture (above) when walking past some subway billboard advertisements today of himself. I believe these are in his homeland of Norway. He simply put his feelings by saying, “Walking past billboards like this freaks me out. I’ll take the long way around and stay in the shadows.” Would it freak you out too?
However on the mountain, there are no shadows Svindal likes to stay. The acclaimed Norwegian beast on skis struck gold after setting the fastest time during the men’s downhill super-combined at the Alpine World Skiing Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, this past February. His switch to HEAD last year continues to be a winning decision.
Svindal is getting back to “his office” as he says this week for some gym time. Let’s hope there are no posters there to distract his workout concentration.
