This year’s NSAA (National Ski Areas Association) National Convention & Tradeshow has kicked off to a great start!
As reporter yesterday, Shaun White received his NSAA Industry Impact Award in the morning and the Opening Keynote speaker, Dr. Tyler Cowen who’s current book, The Great Stagnation, was called “the most debated nonfiction book so far this year” by The New York Times, took the stage as well.
Todd Buccholz, the former director of economic policy in George Bush’s White House, also spoke yesterday about the New Realities in the Post-Recession American Economy. As many people have been made aware, especially ski areas and resorts, the dip in our economy has been an important topic recently and we are all looking forward to its upcoming growth.
The keynote speaker from this morning, Aron Ralston, the man who’s story was made into an Academy Award Nominated film 127 HOURS, received a thunderous standing ovation (picture above). Ralston spoke on persevering against hopeless odds. If you have not seen Danny Boyle’s interpretation of Ralston’s story played out by James Franco, you need to immediately. Ralston is a true inspiration. I have included the trailer of 127 HOURS below. The film is available to rent now.
NSAA is continuing to deliver awards to many ski resorts and areas for their eco-efforts and much more. The convention in Carlsbad wraps up tomorrow, Saturday May 7. The Ski Channel is currently making the rounds and we’ll have a full report for you soon!
