Unfortunately the saying, “a family who skis together stays together” does not apply here anymore. Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his television journalist wife Maria Shriver have announced their separation after 25 years this evening. We have been told Shriver has moved out of the couples Brentwood home.
This avid skiing pair who were married in April of 1986, are frequent visitors to the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho where they also have a vacation home. In 2001, Sun Valley named one of their black diamond short ski trails Arnold’s Run after the former Mr. Olympia.
The couple released a statement saying, “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship. We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public.”
The two had just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on April 26, a day they let pass without public comment. The couple originally met by way of NBC’s Tom Brokaw who introduced them in 1977 at a charity tennis tournament.
