SARANAC LAKE, NY – Olympic and World Champion Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY) will be the first inductee into Saranac Lake’s Walk of Fame during a ceremony held Saturday at the village’s historic Hotel Saranac. The Walk of Fame was created by the Board of Trustees as a way to recognize notable community residents and celebrate village history.

Demong became the first American athlete to capture an Olympic gold medal in Nordic Combined with a large hill victory in Vancouver. He stroke gold two days after anchoring his team to a silver medal performance. Demong also has World Championship medals from 2007 and 2009, a silver and a gold and bronze respectively.

“Bill Demong is an outstanding citizen of the greater Saranac Lake area. He gives us tremendous pride, honor and exemplifies sportsmanship, American determination and our community’s contribution to the world,” said Saranac Lake Mayor Clyde Rabideau.

A superior bronze plaque will be unveiled at the ceremony featuring the village’s new logo followed by the inscription, “William Demong, Olympic Champion.”

Demong’s friends and family are expected to attend the event along with a large number of proud local supporters.
