According to Patrick Chandler, the spokesman of the California Department of Transportation, a section of State Highway 2 between La Cañada Flintridge and Angeles Forest Highway will reopen tomorrow Friday, June 3.
This section of the Angeles Crest Highway had been closed since January 17, 2010 from rains during the 2009 wildfire season. Many Angeles National Forest frequents are very happy, but especially those who are familiar with one of the best hidden ski spots in the country, Mt. Waterman, which made the trek to the mountain much longer these past ski seasons.
The road was originally planned to reopen during this past December however due to a record rainfall then and this January, repairs were delayed. Chandler said that there was too much debris and water that washed out a slope.
The highway is scheduled to open after Friday at 10AM at the Angeles National Forest entrance that is north of La Cañada Flintridge. I say we all go there and rejoice with signs and balloons! Are you with me?!
Special side note for you movie buffs: The 2001 film “Donnie Darko” was partially filmed on the Angeles Crest Highway.
