Weston-super-Mare, UK – Developers have submitted a plan to the North Somerset Council a  £50m  plan to build the largest indoor ski slope in the United Kingdom.

The ski slope, currently titled the LeisureDome, is proposed for Weston-super-Mare and would include the UK’s longest ski slope.

The proposed project by developer LeisureDome (UK) Ltd., if approved and built, is located on 12.7 acres at St. Modwen’s Locking Parklands. The facility will include a 210-meter indoor ski slope as well as an indoor climbing center, health club, skateboard and BMX park, simulated sky diving, a surfing wave pool, children’s activity area and daycare. Future plans even call for an assortment of retail stores and restaurants to be built, to complete the facility.

Expected to be decided upon later this summer by the North Somerset Council, the proposal is anticipated to draw 500,000 visitors annually and create 583 jobs in the region, not even accounting for construction jobs associated with the building of the facility. In October, developers hope to break ground and open the snow dome. The LeisureDome would be the first in the southwestern part of England, and if all goes as planned, it should be open by the spring  of 2013.
