The Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark, Atlanta’s first skatepark, had their Grand Opening this past Saturday, June 11. The Skatepark is the culmination of a multi-year partnership between the community, City government, the Atlanta BeltLine and the private and nonprofit sectors and one of three new parks opening as part of the Atlanta BeltLine in 2011.
One big contributor is master Skateboarder Tony Hawk who made a surprise appearance supporting the opening. His foundation, the Tony Hawk Foundation, donated $25,000 to Atlanta BeltLine helping to complete the 15,000-square-foot skatepark. The Stakepark boasts a wide range of features including a street course, beginner, intermediate and expert skater bowls also has many open fields for general recreation.
Not only did Mr. Hawk stop by, he put his skills in action for the crowd. What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man.
