It appears someone likes to get in trouble. Dell “Superdell” Schanze who formerly ran for Utah Governor and Saratoga Springs resident, has been in trouble with the law many, many times before.

He was found guilty in 2006 for making false statements to a Police Officer and pleaded no contest for “buzzing” Interstate 15 in Saratoga Springs in a paraglider. In 2010, he was found guilty of reckless driving. Now, another paragliding incident has him arrested.

The 41-year-old “Superdell” was arrested Monday afternoon in Oregon for paragliding off the 125-foot high historic Astoria Column. Bail was set at $10,000 and the charge is that of a unclassified misdemeanor.

Astoria police Sgt. Brad Johnson said that there is an ordinance in Astoria since 1998 prohibiting the descent, scaling, or ascension of the exterior of the historic column. The ordinance also restricts climbing over the railing and attaching rope to the column or even throwing objects off the column.
