Earth Hour “started with an idea.” This year, Earth Hour happened on Saturday, March 26 and brought in the most countries since it began in Sydney, Australia in 2007. 135 countries and territories, 5251 cities and towns and reaching 18 billion people was an amazing accomplishment. It proves we care about our planet.

The countdown has already begun for the 2012 Earth Hour scheduled for Saturday, March 31 starting at 8:30PM. Earth Hour released a new video promoting next year’s hour of turning off your lights in honor of helping conserve our energy and stand against climate change.

The video features the song “Hoppípolla” from the album “Takk” by prolific Icelandic band Sigur Rós (pictured above).

Sigur Rós is very selective in who uses their music, and Earth Hour is a cause they truly support. “Living in Iceland we are perhaps more aware than most of the likely consequences of global warming, with our glaciers retreating, our winters disappearing and the doomsday scenario of the gulf streaming ceasing,” said a band spokesperson.
