Musician and skier for life Lars Ulrich of Metallica is getting out of the studio with his band on a new album with the legendary founder of the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed. Yes, you heard that correctly.
Both Ulrich and the lead singer of Metallica, James Hetfield (standing in the picture above with Lou Reed) are mountain men – Hetfield prefers snowboarding to Ulrich’s skiing. They’ve put their boards and sticks (the skiing ones, obviously Lars need those other sticks for drumming) in the closet to make to collaborate with mastermind Reed for a new record.
I know what you may be thinking because I’m also thinking the same thing. This seems like an odd collaboration, indeed. The album is a full-length and 10 song heavy one.
The idea for this joined artistry came about after Metallica performed “Sweet Jane” with Reed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary Concert in 2009. Let’s hope the outcome is in fact, sweet. Then we can all add their album to our apres-ski playlist.
