As of Friday June 17, it is safe to give the excuse “I am to old” is no longer valid. 82 year old Lena Thomas has done what most people consider one of the craziest thrill seeking things to do in the world: BASE jumping. This isn’t the first time Lena has participated in outdoor activities. She has sky dived out of airplanes, swam with dolphins, back packed and even river rafted.

As Lena says in an interview with Times-News “Any time I go anywhere, I like to try something new.”

While no official record exists, it is safe to say that this dare devil 82 year old takes the prize as oldest person to BASE jump. Accompanied by her 58-year-old daughter Terri Scott the two of them both jumped tandem with instructors off of Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls (pictured below). The jump lasted only 45 to 60 seconds, but she did it gracefully landing on her feet.

Besides her age, Lena’s mentality sets her apart from the rest of us. She does not consider anything she has done to be “dangerous” in fact as long as she is strapped to someone else she feels perfectly safe. “When I’m with an instructor, I know he’s going to get me down safely.”

The bridge depcited below looks frightfully scary to most people, but for Lena it’s just another adventure. While she does not have much on her to do list in terms of other thrill seeking activites, she remains upbeat about her experiences and continues to go on adventures with her daughter.
