“To be awarded the most inspiring person by Disabled Sports USA Far West in front of the service men and women that participated in the Wounded Warriors Sports Camp week was humbling as these new adaptive athletes continue to inspire a nation.” –Roy Tuscany
High Fives Non-Profit Foundation’s Co-Founder and President, Roy Tuscany, was presented with the 2011 “Their Spirit Inspires” Award for his work. Tuscany attended the “Their Spirit Inspires” Dinner on June 10, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sacramento with fellow High Fives athlete and intern, Steve Wallace, recently featured in the High Fives’ video series.
The “Their Spirit Inspires” Dinner is the culmination of a four-day event highlighting the abilities of people with disabilities and the powerful, positive health and confidence building effects of Disabled Sports USA Far West’s programs. Twenty-five Soldiers and Marines disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan attended the Wounded Warriors Sports Camp leading up to the dinner.
Attendants received specialized instruction in water skiing, whitewater rafting, paddle sports, adapted cycling and sled hockey. The program is designed as part of their therapy and re-integration into the community.
