The TTR and FIS have put their long-standing feud aside to create a Freestyle Snowboarding Task Force. The task force is intended to focus on a“strategy for competitive freestyle snowboarding,” with an eye towards the future of the sport.
With the 2014 Winter Olympics approaching, questions about whether slopestyle snowboarding will be added to the list of events have arisen. Riders are concerned about an already crowded competition schedule and worried that the addition of slopestyle will mean more qualifying events and greater schedule conflict. In addition to trying to mitigate this problem, the task force will work on consistent course design and judging standards for freestyle snowboarding events.
Whatever the short and long-term results, this movement towards unity between two of the major snowboarding oversight organizations surely signals a step in the right direction.
