WHITEFISH, Mont. – Chair Two is now open, July 1, 2011 for Scenic Lift Rides and lift-accessed mountain biking. This is a temporary activity while Chair One is closed. The original target date was for Chair Two to open on July 2.
Chair One was closed Sunday, June 19 after Whitefish Mountain Resort’s lift maintenance crew noticed a slump in the ground 25 feet above tower six likely caused by heavy moisture this spring. The following activities are not affected by the Chair One closure and also are available at Whitefish Mountain Resort: Alpine Slide, Zip Line Tours, and Walk in the Treetops. Chair 6 and Chair 9 are running and the Base Lodge Café, and the Base Lodge Bar are open. The Summit Nature Center has been moved temporarily to the top floor of the Base Lodge.
In 1950, 28 single chairs were added to the T-Bar to allow for scenic lift rides in the summer. Today Chair Two is a detachable quad lift with 87 chairs and reaches the same summit as the original T-Bar at 5,843 feet above sea level.
Round trip Scenic Lift Rides are $8 for adults and $5 for juniors and seniors (7-12 and 65-69). The Scenic Lift is free for children 6 & under, adults 70+ and 2010/11 Winter Season Pass Holders. One way tickets are only $4. The lift will be open from 10 AM and last ride up will be 5:30 PM.
From the top of Chair Two, mountain bikers will be able to access the Summit Trail however hiking is not allowed on this trail in particular. Right now, Whitefish Mountain Resort has over 16 miles of mountain biking trails open.
Tickets are required for bikes and the prices for Adults (13-64) are: $13 for one ride, $18 for 2 rides and $23 all day. For Juniors (7-12) and Seniors (65-69) they are: $9 for one ride, $12 for 2 rides and $15 for all day.
