The Mammoth Summit Pole this 4th of July

Pictures are coming in today as skiers and boarders are getting their way around the slopes on Mammoth Mountain, the acclaimed ski resort’s final weekend of the 2010/2011 season. For two seasons in a row, Mammoth has stayed open until the 4th of July weekend. I believe our Founding Father’s are in love with Mammoth, like the rest of us, and are sending snow spells from the afterlife.

The famous Mammoth Summit Pole which stands at the mountain’s summit at a great 11053 feet, is a popular picture opportunity. It is such a popular picture snap that sometimes the crowds are overwhelming and can get in the way. Many ride up to the summit just to snap tourist style pictures and see the views. Well today, July 4, the pole is seeing lots of action.

Below is one picture snapped today of the pole. It’s still looking quite buried – WOW. Hello blue skies! Happy Independence!
