A big congratulations goes today to South Korea. It’s time to wipe the “Candidate City” off and replace it with “Host City.” It has been announced that Pyeongchang has been selected as the host of the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The two other finalists South Korea beat out were Annecy, France and Munich, Germany.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Sochi 2014 President and CEO has offered his congratulations to PyeongChang for their hosting win:

On behalf of everyone at Sochi 2014, I want to give my warmest congratulations to Pyeongchang 2018.  Like Sochi 2014, they offer an exciting “New Horizon” for the Olympic Movement. Together we will take the power of Olympism to new territories.  PyeongChang will be an excellent host city and I look forward to working with them in the future. For Annecy 2018 and Munich 2018, I can only offer them my most sincere commiserations.  They both put together very strong bids, and I’m sure they could have both staged an amazing Winter Games.  I wish everyone involved with Annecy 2018 and Munich 2018 all the very best in the future. They will always be valuable members of the Olympic family.”

As the news comes in for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, Chernyshenko and Sochi are busy getting ready for hosting in 2014. “Since our historic moment in Guatemala in 2007, we have achieved some great things in Sochi. We now have less than 3 years to the Games and the recent 1000 days to go celebrations showed us the Olympic spirit is already transforming the country,” said Chernyshenko.

Congrats to Pyeongchang, South Korea! I believe more South Korean soldiers maybe celebrating in the snow today (as scene in the picture below)
