GREENWOOD, Maine— Despite heavy fire damage to its main lodge, Mt. Abrams Family Ski Resort is set to re-open in time for the winter 2011 season. Kevin Rosenberg, the resort’s general manager, is unsure if the existing lodge can be sufficiently repaired or if an entirely new one will have to be constructed.
A lightning strike around 6p.m. Wednesday, July 6, appears to be the cause of the fire that heavily damaged the main lodge at Mt. Abrams. Six local fire departments soon arrived on the scene to try to quell the blaze; one firefighter suffered minor injuries.
The third floor of the lodge collapsed, and the entire building sustained damage from water and smoke.
In addition to the December 10 opening date for winter sports, the resort is scheduled to open for fall activities.
