As The Ski Channel reported yesterday, Treble Cone in New Zealand will be having a Limited Opening tomorrow, Sunday, July 10 after more snow finally arrived to their resort starting this past Wednesday. However, it appears Mother Nature is trying to make-up for her seasonal delays since she has given Treble more to be happy about this morning.
By Friday evening, 35cm was in the Treble Cone carpark and then it has kept snowing! As of Saturday afternoon, they have received more than 60cm at carpark and the fronts are stacked up to the west well. They are also expecting a very big dump next week.
With all the new snow building up, specifically near the Home Basin, the avalanche hazard has heightened. Treble Ski Patrollers have not seen this sort of instability in a decade of patrolling there. They are currently looking out for weather clearances to make the area more stable so they may open the Home Basin and then out to Saddle Basin as well.
