Mike Marolt and Montezuma Basin Productions partners with a cast of sponsors and volunteers to host a private film screening event of Marlot’s very special documentary, Skiing Everest this Tuesday, July 12 in both theaters of the Tribeca Cinemas in New York CIty.
This screening event will help benefit the JIMMIE HEUGA CENTER ENDOWMEN Fund which supports Can Do MS Lifestyle Empowerment Programs for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Marlot is a longtime supporter of Jimmie Heuga, who was one of the first two Americans to win an Olympic medal for alpine skiing. Heuga passed away last year at the age of 66.
Marlot told us at The Ski Channel that he’s, “been on the march for the fight against MS for about 15 years. Jimmie Heuga, the first American to medal in alpine skiing came down with MS shortly after the 1964 Olympics. He then spent the rest of his life changing the way MS is treated, from sedentary, cerebral, to physical and mental training. In the 80’s the American medical association finally agreed. For the tens off millions of people around the world he made a mark. He once told me that if after kids got out of college, if they would pick a fight, and y fight be it hunger, cancer, homelessness, whatever, the world would be a better place. He then asked me if I would use my success as a skier to help him use the skiing culture to fight MS. So I am using Skiing Everest, traveling around the country doing benefit screenings.”
Directed by Mike Marlot and Les Guthman, Skiing Everest documents the adventures of Mike Marlot, his twin brother Steve and Jim Gile as they fulfill their dreams of skiing down the mighty Mount Everest. For more information on Skiing Everest you may visit its, website at: www.skiingeverest.net.
