After being nearly buried under snow for five days, the Home Basin of Treble Cone Resort in New Zealand is opening tomorrow! The park crew are expecting fantastic slope conditions, and the road up to it will be open to the public at 8am. The Saddle Basin at the resort is still covered with copious amounts of snow however, but will hopefully be open on Friday.
Also, to celebrate the opening of the park, there is a BASE triple competition on Saturday. This is the first big event of the 2011 season, and the events will be the POW Banked Slalom, Rossignol Expression session, and Bern Norwegian downhill. This is a favorite event among locals, and entry is $40 with a chance to win huge prizes.
With so much snow, the roads have been slippery to say the least. Therefore, absolutely all cars are required to have chains or will not be allowed to pass through the gate. The 3 main carparks will be the only parking structures open, so carpool and get there early!
