Have you been keeping up on the events going on at Kokanee Crankworx???
Crankworx is now in its fifth season running, and has already made this season one to remember. Although weather was beginning to become a factor, hundreds of avid fans surrounded the gates in front of the big screen in Whistler Village ready to watch some bike action.
The Fat Tire Crit kicked off the Kokanee Crankworx events this past Friday. Brian Lopes of the men’s and Katherine Short of the women’s section had their winning races.
Day two included the Dual Slalom where riders pumped through a course “riddled with rhythm sections, a mogul field, tight berms, jumps and drops”. Winners Mitch Ropelato and Jill Kintner came out on top in their respective races.
Yesterday was day three of the Kokanee Crankworx that featured the Canadian Open Downhill. Record breaking numbers were put up with Steve Smith making it down “Heckler’s Rock” at 3:00.01. Rachel Atherton won the women’s race with a 3:34.45 time.
Today is free ride day for anyone who wants to take a bike ride!
The action continues tomorrow with the Garbanzo Downhill. This race will really tests the riders as they whistle down the steep, slickrock performing jaw dropping stunts. It includes “3,400 vertical of arm pumping, finger cramping, non-relenting downwardness that will test the likes of Gee Atherton, Steve Smith and current World Champion Sam Hill”.
