The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort on Mount Charleston has gained initial federal approval for expansion plan. After four years of negotiation the U.S Forest Service has accepted the master plan for the resort to develop and expand. The expansion project’s price is over 35 million dollars
The resort plans to expand from 11 trails to over 50 trails and add seven new lifts. The entire expansion with take around a decade but immediate expansions will be ready for winter. Next winter the resort plans to have four new trails, more outdoor seating at the lodge and more storage
One of the major problems that slowed down the negotiation for expansion was the blue butterfly which lives in the area. The blue butterfly is on the endangered list and the resort has to meet the standards of the butterfly in order to expand.
