RENO, NV - July 21, 2011 — The Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) Board of Directors today appointed Mark H. White as the organization’s President & CEO. The RSCVA is the primary tourism agency supporting convention and tourism business for the Reno Tahoe region. The President/CEO reports directly to the RSCVA Board of Directors. Through direction of the Board, the President/CEO plans, coordinates, directs and is responsible for all activities associated with the operation of the RSCVA and its facilities.
“I am very thankful to the Board for its confidence that I can make a difference promoting Reno Tahoe,” said White. “It’s a beautiful area with so many attributes that are attractive to leisure travelers as well as meeting planners, and I’m excited to move my family here and make a positive impact in the community.”
Mr. White is currently the Vice President of Sales at Visit Salt Lake, where he held multiple tourism and convention related positions since 1993. Prior to his career at Visit Salt Lake, Mr. White worked in the investment and banking industries for nine years. As VP of Sales, Mr. White managed a sales team responsible for booking more than 400,000 convention-related room nights on an annual basis. He was also responsible for crafting custom web campaigns. His involvement and leadership helped to increase convention attendance that surpassed client projections.
In today’s interview before the Board of Directors, Mr. White addressed what needs to be done in his first 100 days as the RSCVA’s chief executive; including, taking stock of the needs of the Board and RSCVA stakeholders, assessing the current functions and personnel within the sales and marketing departments, setting clear goals for each department and implementing performance measures, and becoming more familiar with RSCVA’s facilities and their capabilities. His start date has yet to be determined.
“The Board is confident that it has appointed the most qualified candidate,” said Dwight Dortch, Chairman of the RSCVA Board of Directors. “It was a very difficult decision, but Mark White has the experience and the vision that RSCVA needs to move forward right now.”
