South America had been waiting for snow for a long time.  While the parts of North America were skiing in July, South America has wondering when the snow would finally come.  This past week Chile received eight feet of snow in four days.  This huge amount of snow caught many towns off guard and are now with out power.  It usually takes months to get this amount of snow.

The town of Longquimay which sits at 9,000ft and has over 10,000 residents is without running water.  Water pipes have frozen over, some gas tanks have frozen over aswell. All roads are snowed in and the only way to get aid to the town is from helicopter.

Seven other districts have declared “catastrophe” from the heavy snowfall. Many ski resorts have opened for the season because of the snow storm.
