Aspen has added a third airline carrier.  American Airlines will host daily flights from Dallas/Fort Worth and Los Angeles to Aspen beginning December 15, 2011.  The addition of American Airlines to the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is supported by many local businesses for the potential of a boom in the economy.  Restaurants, hotels and other businesses are excited to serve more people.

The busiest tourist season in Aspen history was in 1997-98 when Dallas had flights going into Aspen.  Every since that year Aspen has been trying to get Dallas to host more flights to the area.

There were many delays in the addition of flights into the area for a number of reasons.  Flights needed to be full with passengers.  But the there were weight restrictions at the airport because of the short runway.  A runway extension has been added and now flights with more passengers will be able to fly into Aspen.

Flights can be booked starting Monday August 1st.
