Banff, Alberta: Canadian Press reported today that Banff is having a ‘bear’ of a problem this summer. With mountain biking banned as well as dogs the mountain seems to be a little bit quieter. Banff’s most popular trail is being heavily restricted by the park authorities who put up restrictions in response to fear of bear attacks. Any hikers must be in at least groups of four and carry bear spray.
Anyone caught disobeying these restrictions can be fined up to $25,000.
Mark Merchant park spokesman said that hikers on the Lake Minnewanka Trail (the one with restrictions) have been fallowing these restrictions. He also noted that this area was particularly risky because of the peak in berry season, which is the bear’s main food source.
