OBERHOFEN, SWITZERLAND — Andrus Veerpalu, the two-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion in the 15-K race of 02′ and 06′, has been officially banned from competition for three years as of late August after testing positive for HGH (Human Growth Hormone) in January and again in February.  Veerpalu abruptly retired at age 40 after denying these results before the World Championships.

According to The Associated Press, the drug panel within the International Ski Federation has deemed Veerpalu ineligible for competition or association with any officially related event until the final day of the Sochi Winter Olympics – Feb. 23, 2014.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is open for Veerpalu’s appeal, however it would seem this ski champion will resign from his successes in infamy.
